Chris Bogert - クリス ボガート

I've been interested in art since the time I was crawling on the ground.  I grew up in a semi-artsy family.  My grandmother was an artist for most of her life and my mother was always interested in art, painting and going to galleries with me as a child and we still go whenever I'm back in town on holiday from school.  I currently go to Evergreen State College and will have completed my B.F.A. with a minor in Asian art studies this coming year.  Before Evergreen I attended SFCC in Spokane and recieved my A.F.A.  I plan on going on to recieve my M.F.A. but haven't deceided which school to attend for that.  I have only had two exhibitions thus far both in Spokane.  In Olympia I haven't had any time to put any shows on with the mass amount of work I do at school.

I started to make shakuhachi flutes about 2 years ago because of the lack of affordable beginner shakuhachi.  I have been selling affordable hand-made beginner/meditation shakuhachi on ebay for the last year or so. I'm currently studying with Larry Tyrrell sensei from Portland, OR. In the summer I'm moving back to Spokane and will be studying with James Hunter sensei.  In the fall I will travel to Japan to study shakuhachi in Kyoto with Yoshio Kurahashi sensei. I have been studying Japanese for about 1 year here at Evergreen with Tomoko Hirai Ulmer sensei.
