Landscapes and Memories

Hello my name is Chris Bogert and I'm an artist and shakuhachi flute player/maker.  I work mostly with watercolors and woodblock prints using the Japanese method.  One theme that I like to introduce is the idea of landscapes and how they influence our lives.  This past fall I created a series of paintings dealing with past places in my life and how they relive memories just by the sight of them. Recently I have also done several pieces refering to the Iraq war from the Iraqi people's point of view which I'll upload sooner or later.  Right now I'm working on a painting of Kodama, the hochiku shakuhachi maker and player from the Nagano area.  I saw a cool picture of his taken by Ken Lacosse who said I could use it.

5/15/06 Back again, I've been busy making shakuhachi lately.  I put up some new 尺八 photos of newer flutes.  Been taking lessons with Larry Tyrrell sensei for about 2 1/2 months now.  Got everything ready to go to Japan in the fall, hurray.  I'll keep up the lessons when I return to Spokane with James Hunter sensei.  In Japan I'll be taking lessons from Yoshio Kurahashi sensei.  Things are just getting going for me and this wonderful flute, I'm sure I'll enjoy the ride.  I also bought me an older Tom Deaver flute to study with. 

3/01/06 Been quite awhile once again. I've been really busy with school. Next quarter I will be focusing on making shakuhachi flutes and learning to play better. I'll try to put my new flutes on here as they are finished.

12/24/05 Been a long time since I updated the site. I've got about 20 or so new paintings to put on here. I will put some more auctions on ebay after Christmas. Updated some of the work in the painting and print section.

8/03/05 Today I added my newest flute to the shakuhachi section and worked on other areas of the webpage.
7/30/05   Added more to the art section and created the flute section.
7/27/05   Not much just noting my b-day, 22 as of today

I am almost done with my newest shakuhachi, this one is a 2.1 kinko jinashi.  I'll post pictures once it is completely finished.
